Saturday, May 10th 3:00-5:00pm, Tasting with Ridge winemaker Eric Baugher

RidgeRidge Vineyards has been judged by the world's top wine critics to make some of the best Cabernet on the globe. Their 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon was ranked above some premier cru Bordeaux at the ground-breaking 1976 Judgement of Paris blind tasting. That same Cabernet vintage placed first in a rematch two years ago.

Located in Cupertino, at the top of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Ridge has been producing some of the worlds most acclaimed wines. At this winery the Ridge team makes Zinfandels against which all other American Zinfandels are measured, and they craft what is arguably the country's most compelling and celebrated Bordeaux blend, Ridge Monte Bello.

The wine critic Robert Parker has proclaimed the Ridge Monte Bello Vineyard as one of the Top 100 Vineyards in the world.

We are very pleased to host winemaker Eric Baugher for this tasting of exceptional and world renowned wines.

If you haven't seen Jeffrey around the shop too much lately, it's because he's been spending most of his weekends riding miles upon miles on the back of a bike. He's been doing this for a great cause, raising funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS services in California by participating in the 7th AIDS/LifeCycle, a week-long bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles starting June 1st. To help with the fundraising part, Jeffrey and his friends from Team Slug will be hosting a fundraiser at Vinocruz on Thursday, May 15th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Wines have been donated so far from Muccigrosso Vineyards, Hunter Hill, Sones Cellars, and Alfaro Family Vineyards. Transcendent cheese pairings will be provided by Praise Cheeses- Pass the Wine. Fantastic raffle prizes have been donated by many local companies. Now, all we need is you! $20 suggested donation per person to attend, raffle tickets $10 each. Or, if you can't make it but still want to donate, you can go to Jeffrey's AIDS/LifeCycle homepage.

Saturday, May 24th

Tasting with Stroth-Hall Cellars and winemaker Paul Stroth.

The Vino-Deck is Here!

With the return of sunny warm days and lighter evenings comes our new seating area in Abbott Square. Now you can enjoy a glass of wine or bottle service outside! A perfect place to sit, sip and people watch before heading out for a night downtown. In the near future we will be adding a broader assortment of cheeses and small snacks for on the deck.

Artwork By Sara Friedlander

We are very please to announce the installation of artwork by Sara Friedlander. This showing highlights Sara’s “Subway Series.” After years as a ceramist, Isara discovered painting in the ’90s, when she studied in Bali under the tutelage of two master painters, Pak Mokoh and Galuh. Then in a workshop taught by Holly Roberts she began painting on photographs. Combining these two medium seemed to open yet another door into the essence of her subjects. She remains hopeful that through her lens and a sensitive use of the brush and color, she is honoring the character, spirit, and struggle of those exquisite people she has been fortunate to meet on her travels.

The official opening for this work was on Friday, May 2nd, as part of the First Friday Art Tour.

Friday After Work Wine-Down

On Fridays we offer a selection of wines by the glass for $5.00 from 5:00pm until 6:30pm. A great way to end the week with a glass of wine that can be enjoyed with one of our Lifestyle Culinary Cheese boxes!

Vinocruz featured in the Wall Street Journal !!!!

Vinocruz has scored big in the eyes of the national media. In a recent Wall Street Journal article discussing the burgeoning trend of local wine shops dedicated to their particular region, Vinocruz was prominently featured for being one of the best examples in the country.

Wall Street Journal writers Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher, who write the regular “Tastings” column, had visited Santa Cruz last year. What they found was “a stylish little shop“ that reminded them of the enotecas of Italy that are, as they state, “kind of living museums of the local wines.”

About these new American enotecas, Gaiter and Brecher write, “These specialty wine shops not only are a marvelous way to sample a region's wines at just one stop, but they often have on hand tiny-production wines from local wineries that are so small they're rarely or never open to the public. Invariably, you'll find serious boosters behind the counter, people who are eager to pour you a taste or sell you a bottle of wine made by passionate winemakers in their communities.”

Dining Downtown with Cathy (Santa Cruz Sentinel, October 30, 2006):

Breath of Santa Cruz (Goodtimes, October 12, 2006):

"The interior of Vino Cruz, a brand-new tasting room dedicated solely to the wines of the Santa Cruz Mountains, has a sophisticated and clean feel, with stainless steel counters and low, square merchandise islands. There are bottles everywhere, at different levels, catching your eye from every corner with quirky and attractive labels. It may seem, at first, just like any other wine vendor’s store. The difference is that owner J-P Correa has made it his mission to discover and share wines from wineries so small, they otherwise don’t get exposure." Continue to the rest of the article . . .
