Vinocruz is pleased to host the work of local artist Laurie Zeszut

Laurie ZeszutInspired by the likes of Matisse, Picasso and Dufy, Laurie Zeszut is a self-taught painter. She first began her career when a friend encouraged her to attend a watercolor class after seeing the handpainted wrapping paper Zeszut had created for a birthday present. She had to fit her penchant for painting into the small bits of time that opened up in her life as a mother who was also juggling a career. It may be the very thing that has given Zeszut her confidently bold style.

Breaking the tendencies of the expected, gathering enough personality and character to set the stage for a play, Zeszut uses her gouache paint on black paper to startling effect. These are Alice in Wonderland scenes, full of a lively and breathtakingly helter-skelter style that can't help but light up a room.

It's a style that cheers without being frenetic, soothes without being dull. Far from it. There's a kinesthetic and visual power to Zeszut's paintings that makes her work a rare blend of passion and serenity. Though her objects may be outsized, her patterns asymmetrical, she nonetheless has the ability to infuse her landscapes with a palpable joy.

Of the subject matter of her paintings, Zeszut says: "I have an idea and I go with it. I make it up as I go along—a whole painting expands from one little idea." Those ideas have led Laurie Zeszut to a career as an accomplished and sought after contemporary painter, one who has caught the eye of collectors worldwide and earned her accolades and awards. Laurie Zeszut has chosen to enchant. Her paintings allow us to share in that enchantment.

Please join us in experiencing Laurie’s wonderful work.

On Fridays we offer a selection of wines by the glass for $5.00 from 5:00pm until 6:30pm. A great way to end the week with a glass of wine that can be enjoyed with one of our Lifestyle Culinary Cheese boxes!

Vinocruz in Sunset Magazine!

The August issue of Sunset Magazine has a great article on the Santa Cruz Mountains wine scene. There is information on many of the local wineries, restaurants and activities. Vinocruz is honored to be mentioned at the top of the article for our wine tasting experience. Read the article.

Dining Downtown with Cathy (Santa Cruz Sentinel, October 30, 2006):

"I'd call it the party of the week. It's clear that Cathy Schlumbrecht has a hit on her hands, with the first Women's Progressive Dinner. The Tuesday night trip through downtown sold out all 50 spots." Continue to the rest of the article . . .

Wine shop's mantra: Local, local, local (Santa Cruz Sentinel, October 27, 2006):

"J-P Correa is a walking encyclopedia of local wines. He's happy to share what he knows at Vinocruz, the new downtown shop specializing in products from Santa Cruz Mountains wineries." Continue to the rest of the article . . .

Breath of Santa Cruz (Goodtimes, October 12, 2006):

"The interior of Vino Cruz, a brand-new tasting room dedicated solely to the wines of the Santa Cruz Mountains, has a sophisticated and clean feel, with stainless steel counters and low, square merchandise islands. There are bottles everywhere, at different levels, catching your eye from every corner with quirky and attractive labels. It may seem, at first, just like any other wine vendor’s store. The difference is that owner J-P Correa has made it his mission to discover and share wines from wineries so small, they otherwise don’t get exposure." Continue to the rest of the article . . .
